Kathmandu: Gagan Kumar Thapa, Nepali Congress general secretary and lawmaker, emphasized the necessity of a broader commitment to enhance the effectiveness of the government-launched health insurance program. Speaking at an interaction organized by the Nepal Medical Association in Kathmandu, the former Health Minister expressed concerns about the potential failure of the program, which he initiated.

Thapa, credited for launching the health insurance program to promote citizens' right to healthcare services as guaranteed by the Constitution, highlighted that the program has not received sufficient attention from high political leadership. He proposed amending insurance-related laws to improve the program's efficiency.

Lawmaker Prakash Panth echoed the sentiment, stating that the effective implementation of the health insurance program would contribute to promoting citizens' constitutional right to healthcare services. Panth emphasized the need for reforms in Nepal's health service and system, suggesting that investments in the health sector should be streamlined through a unified approach.

Uttar Kumar Khatri, joint-secretary of the Finance Ministry, mentioned that the budget for the current fiscal year prioritizes the health sector. He affirmed ongoing efforts to systematize the insurance program and ensure basic healthcare facilities for citizens. The discussions underscored the collective call for a committed approach and legal amendments to fortify the success of the health insurance initiative.
